ARIZONA STRIP, Ariz. – An accident involving a semitrailer and a dump truck 1 mile south of the Virgin River Gorge on Interstate 15 has resulted in critical injuries to one. Southbound traffic on I-15 is slow but moving.
Arizona Highway Patrol responded to the 12:35 p.m. accident call. One or more of the vehicles involved are blocking the Interstate, Sgt. John Bottoms said at 1:35 p.m., but traffic is getting around the collision scene in the median. Traffic is backing up, he said, and “it’s going to be very slow.”
The driver of the dump truck involved in the accident has been flown by medical helicopter to University Medical Center in Las Vegas with critical injuries, Bottoms said.
There are currently extreme winds in the area, Bottoms said, which may be impairing cell service.
This is a developing story as the scene is active and remains under investigation. Refresh this post to check for updates.

That looks like an ADOT truck. I hope the driver survived as this looks like it has the potential to have been a fatal crash.
