SAN JUAN COUNTY – One man was killed on state Route 191 after two semitrailers collided head-on early Wednesday morning.
Around 12:45 a.m., a northbound semitrailer carrying produce around mile post 10 crossed the center line and collided with a southbound semitrailer carrying mail, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol. Both trailers were ripped open and their contents were scattered.
Micheal Eckerman, 29, of Scottsdale, Ariz., the driver of the northbound truck, was killed in the crash. The southbound driver was slightly injured by flying glass. The UHP reported the driver was taken to a Blanding, Utah, hospital in fair condition.
The UHP said it does not consider weather to have been a factor in the accident, and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
