ST. GEORGE — With Region 9 games beginning Wednesday, the St. George News sports staff helps prepare fans for the 2013-14 region season with a series of boys basketball previews.

SNOW CANYON WARRIORS
Head Coach: James Brown (13th year)
2012-2013 Record: 16-7 (1st in region with a 10-2 record)
2013 Postseason: Beat Wasatch 66-61 in 3A third-place game
Key Returners: Nate Gottfredson, Hayden Anderson, Jacob Frei, Tanner Sampson
Key Losses: Chandler Gines, Kallan Webster, Brendan Truman
Probable Starters: Gottfredson, Anderson, Frei, Sampson, Chase Jenkins
Key Reserves: Brock Staheli, Cameron Densley, Kaden Goodrich
Lineup: The Warriors are big and talented up front, with Gottfredson and Anderson. Densley will also help out inside. Jenkins will be the point guard, which will move the talented Frei to shooting guard. Sampson can also score, but SC is a little thin on the bench, at least until some football injuries heal up.
Outlook: Snow Canyon went deep into the playoffs last season, though Gines was a big part of that. Still, with some excellent post play and a couple of guards who can light it up, the Warriors should be a force to be reckoned with this season. Gottfredson is unquestionably the most skilled offensive big man in the region, so he should see lots of double-teams.
Coach Says: “Potentially, we could be pretty good again,” Brown said. “We’ve got all our big guys back from last year. Hopefully that will help give a chance at a championship. I’m very excited for the guys we have coming back.We do have some guys with injuries from football. Hopefully they can help us later on in the season.
