Joy Christensen Lindquist

lyndquist(December 30, 1979 – October 15, 2013)

Joy Christensen Lindquist, 33, died peacefully in her home on October 15, 2013, surrounded by her family after valiantly battling cancer for over 2 ½ years. She was born on December 30, 1979 in St. George, Utah, to Lynn and Carma Jean Christensen.  She married Ben Lindquist on July 28, 2000, in the St. George Temple.

Joy was full of life and, at the age of 33, was able to leave a mark on the world that would take most a lifetime.  She was humble, smart and beautiful.  Joy had many talents and could have done anything in this life, but chose to be a mother and a wife, something she did with grace, patience and love.  Her greatest love in this life was her family, especially her two kids, Lydia and McKay.

Joy had an amazing sense of humor, but never at the expense of someone else.  She was never the life of the party, but always made the party or gathering worth being at, whether it was bringing food, witty conversation or unbiased perspective.  Joy knew who she was and would never compromise her beliefs or principles, yet never alienated anyone for believing or doing something different.  She never wanted anyone to feel uncomfortable and would help anyone she came across without ever expecting anything in return.  Joy truly was Christ-like, she loved the Lord and was always willing to do what it took to follow the Savior. She never complained, even when her body suffered through numerous cancer treatments and surgeries.  Her name was more than a name, it was who she was, how she lived and what she brought to others, she truly was JOY.

She is survived by her husband Ben, children: Lydia and McKay.  Parents:  Lynn and Jeannie Christensen. Siblings: Jena (Harold) Nelson of Washington, Utah; Jed (Amy) Christensen of St. George, Utah; Jill (Craig) Riddle of Washington, Utah; Jason (Alicia) Christensen of Washington, Utah; and Josh (Karisa) Christensen of Washington, Utah; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Joy was always one of my favorite people to be around and someone I was very proud to call family. I have never heard anything but good things said about her and she lived up to who she portrayed herself to be at all times. Even as kids she was always a peacemaker and showed love for everyone. She will forever have a place in my heart and in the hearts of all who knew her. How blessed those in heaven are at this time to be around her again and feel of her love, but I know her love will be felt by her family in this life in times of need. She will be sorely missed and sweetly remembered. We love you, Joy!

What a “Joy” she was to those who she came in contact with not only friends but family. Joy is my second cousin and I have had the privledge to share in her love and be apart of her life. She has been a woman of strong faith and just had a heart of gold. I want you to know Joy how much I love and will miss you and what”Joy” you put into my life and what great memories I will have of our family and all the fun reunions we have had. Have a happy reunion in Heaven. Can’t wait to meet again. I love you Joy. May Heavenly Father bless your sweet husband and beautiful children as they are in this time of need.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am Gaylen Christensen’s (Dave and Neva) daughter. I have been getting the emails and seeing the progress of Joy’s health. And while I have never met her, I feel as if I know what an amazing person she was. May her example and amazing memories live on and may peace find you when you need it the most.
