Impaired driver hits brick wall, sustains minor injuries

SANTA CLARA – An impaired driver who hit a brick wall continued driving until finally stopping across the street from Snow Canyon High School, where was apprehended by responding police officers Wednesday morning.

Santa Clara/Ivins Public Safety Department Sgt. Scott Bannon said police were initially called around 10:20 a.m. concerning a hit-and-run involved a vehicle that had hit a brick wall on Canyon View Drive. The individual who called police followed the vehicle when it drove away from the scene.

The vehicle ultimately ended up on Lava Flow Drive, where it ran off the road and up a dirt embankment across the street from Snow Canyon High School.

Bannon said the car’s airbags deployed during the incident and the driver, a 33-year-old male, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

An initial investigation into the accident determined the driver to be “under the influence of psychotropic vapors; he was huffing.”

Bannon said the man would likely be taken into custody after being treated by medical staff at DRMC.

Ed. note: Persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
