ST. GEORGE – There was an afternoon of accidents in the St. George area Thursday as accidents occurred on River Road, Red Cliffs Drive, and Interstate 15 within a two-hour span.
The first accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of 700 South and River Road. St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said an SUV was traveling northbound though the intersection and attempted to make a left turn. At the same time a KIA passenger car was traveling southbound through the intersection and hit the SUV.
Despain said the two people in the SUV were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one in the KIA was harmed. The driver of the SUV was cited for not yielding to oncoming traffic on a left turn.
A similar situation took place at 263 Red Cliffs Drive in front of Red Lobster around 3:30 p.m., Despain said. In this incident a Mazda passenger car was leaving the Zion Factory Stores parking lot and also attempting to make a left turn, pulling out in front of a Ford passenger car while doing so.
No injuries were reported in the resulting collision. The Mazda driver was also cited for not yielding to oncoming traffic.
Both accidents temporarily impacted traffic flow in the area.
