Ford Escape ricochets off curb, 4-vehicle accident ensues

HURRICANE  – An accident involving four vehicles on West State Street near McDonald’s in Hurricane this evening resulted in personal injuries and vehicle damages, impacting traffic flow for nearly an hour.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a vehicle accident at 1150 West State Street around 5:10 p.m. today, Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. Officers arrived and found the accident involving four vehicles was blocking one lane in each direction, both of which were shut down for about 45 minutes to one hour.

According to witness statements to police, a dark gray Ford Escape traveling eastbound left its travel lane hitting the curb to its right, then returning to the travel lane hitting the back of a white Dodge Durango and then a silver Kia Sorento. Debris from the accident hit a silver Nissan Pathfinder, traveling in the westbound lanes.

Three people received ambulance transport to Dixie Regional Medical Center, all were in stable condition, Buell said. Two had been the occupants of the Ford Escape and one the occupant of the Kia Sorento.

Of the four vehicles involved, two incurred substantial damage and were towed from the scene, the other two, one being the Pathfinder hit by debris, suffered minimal damage and remained driveable.

Cause has not been determined and the accident remains under investigation, Buell said. Hurricane Police Department requests any witnesses who have not yet given statements to the police to contact dispatch at 435-627-4999.
