HURRICANE – Athletes of all ages and fitness levels took part in the Kokopelli Triathlon Saturday at Sand Hollow State Park.
After nearly two weeks of storms, the skies cleared and competitors were treated to flawless conditions for swimming, biking and running amid the area’s stunning scenery.
Competitors in the sprint, Olympic and kids’ courses, with the help of support stations and volunteers, raced throughout the morning. Youth took off first, followed by the various men’s and women’s age divisions.
Ethan Porter won for the youth, while Aaron Phillips of Salt Lake City was the first adult to cross the finish line.
Medals were given out to all participants who completed the race, followed by an awards ceremony and well-deserved lunch.
The Kokopelli Triathlon is one of several races in Utah and Nevada sponsored by BBSC Endurance Sports. They will return to Southern Utah with the Sand Hollow Tri in May 2014.
