Unidentified body found in Virgin River

WASHINGTON CITY – A body was discovered on or near the bank of the Virgin River Friday afternoon in the Washington Fields area of Washington.

Washington City Police Department spokesman, Ed Kantor, said in a statement that the police were alerted to the discovery around 4 p.m. The body was located in the area of 2200 East off of Washington Dam Road.

Initial investigation indicates that the body was probably transported by the river from an unknown location upstream,” Kantor said.

The gender, identification and the primary cause of death could not be established due to the condition of the body when it was found.

The body has been turned over to the state medical examiner’s office who is assisting in this investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be released by the Washington City Police Department as they become available.

I saw a man walking down into the river area Wednesday afternoon. He was wearing a red and white shirt it looked to be button up and checked or stripped. He was also wearing jeans. Looked kinda odd especially while it was raining. Is there any description?

I’m the individual who found the body on September 13. After looking at the photos of the missing Rockville woman I now believe it might be her. My original assessment of it being a young woman is more than likely incorrect due to the condition of the body from decomposition and the fact that it was half buried and face down. However the hair color and length looked the same as well as other physical similarities to the report and photos of the Rockville woman. The body would have traveled a long ways down river (about 25 – 30 miles), but she disappeared when the flood waters were at their peak, so it is not impossible for her to have traveled that far. However, until the medical examiner makes a positive ID, this is only my opinion as an an eye witness in this tragedy.
