Game Preview Capsule: San Juan at Snow Canyon

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE
San Juan (0-0, 0-0) at Snow Canyon (0-0, 0-0)
Previous Meeting – San Juan 19, Snow Canyon 11 (Aug. 17, 2012 at San Juan)

BRONCOS
san-juan-smClassification: 2A, South Region
Coach: Monty Lee (11th year, 96-19 overall)
Offense: Option
Last game: Lost to Manti 16-13 in overtime in the 2A state championship game
Players to watch: Bronze Eldredge has a great name and great game. He’ll be starting at running back and linebacker and should star at both. Jens Grover and Max Morley both will start at running back and linebacker as well as San Juan is light in numbers, but heavy in talent.
PPG: 33.8 (last season)
PAPG: 5.9 (last season)
Trend: Some programs have IT. San Juan has been dominant in 2A for three decade, and as many coaches. Lee is a born and bred Bronco and it shows. And the way they get it done in Blanding is with defense. San Juan allowed just four teams to score in double-figures last season and none had more than 16 points. SC had 11 against them.

WARRIORS
snow-canyon-smClassification: 3AA, South Region
Coach: Marcus Matua (1st year)
Offense: Single Wing/Spread
Last game: Lost to Pine View 30-13 to close out 2012 season.
Players to watch: New QB Warner Rigby is reportedly a supreme athlete and this offense is built around him. Trevor Horlacher will be a stud at tight end and linebacker, but will miss this game with an injury. Bowman Loo and Keaton Plant hope to plow the way for Rigby and running backs Cole Mooring and Conner Parry.
PPG: 25.6 (last season)
PAPG: 22.0 (last season)
Trend: A new coaching staff hopes to buck the trend of the Warriors missing the playoffs, though it won’t be easy. It’s been seven years since SC has been a factor in the postseason. A new offense and some decent linemen could help Snow Canyon on offense, but the Warriors also gave up 22 points a game defensively,so there are issues to address on that side of the ball as well.

GAME OUTLOOK
This is a really tough game to get a read on. San Juan lost a lot of seniors and they are usually not deep. Meanwhile, SC has a whole new staff and are relatively light on numbers as well. Matua is saying all the right things, but now it’s time to put it all out on the field.
STGnews (record) PREDICTION
Andy Griffin (0-0) — Snow Canyon
Darren Cole (0-0) — San Juan
