HURRICANE – A portion of downtown Hurricane lost power around 1:40 p.m. today when a breaker failed at the city’s Clifton Wilson Substation.
A breaker in the substation had failed and opened about half of the power circuits in the substation, Dave Imlay, of Hurricane City Power, said. This resulted in a loss of power to about 20 percent of Hurricane City Power’s customers, and was localized to a part of the downtown area.
Since the breaker did not experience a “catastrophic failure” and lacked the smoke and the electrical arcing that accompanies such incidents, trying to find the origin of the power failure wasn’t easy, Imlay said.
Once the problem was identified, however, power was rerouted and restored by 2:10 p.m.
