ST. GEORGE – A man was arrested in St. George Friday after threatening people in a store with a knife.

St. George Police Sgt. Derek Lewis said the 58-year-old transient man was in a business on St. George Boulevard Friday and refused to leave the premises after the business owner had asked him to do so. The man did leave at one point after the business owner was joined by another individual.

Soon after leaving the man returned to the business allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening at least four different people.

Police responded to the scene and arrested the accused who then began to make specific threats against an officer’s life, Lewis said. According to booking records, the man was also reportedly intoxicated. He was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on four third-degree felony counts of assault with aggravated use of a weapon, a class B misdemeanor for threatening someone’s life, and a class C misdemeanor for intoxication.

Ed. Note:  Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
