HURRICANE – Multiple agencies responded when St. George Communications Center received a call at 4:45 p.m. today reporting a plane crash in Hurricane.

Hurricane Chief of Police Lynn Excell said the single-engine plane took off from Hurricane Municipal Airport, General Dick Stout Field, when something happened to cause the plane to lose altitude and crash into the Frog Hollow Wash.

The pilot, a 74-year-old man flying solo, was injured and transported by Life Flight.

Nobody else was injured in connection with the crash.

Hurricane Police and Fire Departments and Washington County Sheriff’s Department were among the first responders.

Authorities have contacted the Federal Aviation Administration and said they expect to have more information to report tomorrow.

This is a preliminary report and details as to the kind of plane, name of the pilot, extent of his injuries and hospital to which he was transported, among others, were not available from authorities at the time of publication.
