Go behind the curtains of the Utah Shakespeare Festival; guild-hosted luncheon series

CEDAR CITY – The 14th annual Curtain Call Luncheon series, a fundraising event sponsored by the Guild of the Utah Shakespeare Festival hosted in conjunction with the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City, will begin on July 5 and be held the following four Fridays, July 12, 19, 26 and Aug. 2.

In a question-and-answer format, luncheon patrons will learn what goes into the festival productions from those closest to the process, the actors. Each luncheon features four different festival actors who are appearing in this summer’s 52nd season of productions.

It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a delicious, hot buffet style lunch and have an intimate discussion with festival actors,” Guild President and luncheon moderator Ted Porray said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet the people behind the characters that festival patrons see on stage.”

Luncheons will begin at 11:45 a.m., with guests appearing from noon to 12:50 p.m. They will be held in Southern Utah University’s beautiful and intimate J. Rueben Clark, Jr. Alumni House on the northeast corner of 300 West and Center Street (just north and across the street from the Randall L. Jones Theatre in Cedar City.)

Advance tickets cost $17.50 and may be purchased in person at festival ticket offices, by calling 1-800-PLAYTIX, or online before the day of the luncheon. Any remaining tickets will be sold the day of the luncheon for $20.00 and will be available only at the door, as seating is limited.

Porray said that all proceeds from guild events such as this luncheon series are donated yearly “to the festival to help them with their mission to entertain, enrich and educate” and he is proud that “in just the past eight years alone, the guild has donated over $130,000 to the festival.”

The 2013 Utah Shakespeare Festival season runs from June 24 to Oct. 19. More information can be found here.
