Planned power outage affects 1,500 Rocky Mountain Power customers, Middleton substation

ST. GEORGE – Customers serviced by Rocky Mountain Power northwest of its Middleton substation experienced a planned interruption of power service last night.

Spokesman Jeff Hymas said more than 1,500 customers were affected by the scheduled power outage, allowing the company to replace some overhead power lines northwest of its Middleton substation. Customers are given 48-hours advance notice of any planned interruptions of service, Rocky Mountain spokespersons said, either by letter, automated outbound calling or sometimes a flyer on their door.

The interruption of service occurred from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 3:21 a.m. this morning and affected Middleton Valley, Dixie Deer and Dammeron Valley areas, Hymas said.  A Facebook post from Cody Anderson to St. George News said that communities from Winchester Hills to Brookside experienced the power outage; Rocky Mountain Power  confirmed 340 customers were affected in the Winchester Hills area.

Winchester Hills did lose power, but we were notified well in advance. A brief interruption like that in order to have more reliable service is well worth it. Losing power once in a while helps us appreciate what we have even more. I also really enjoyed not having my neighbor’s light shining in our room last night.

If this was a planned outage, why couldn’t they have planned for it in spring or fall?
