Winther, long drive champ, to attempt world record today

ST. GEORGE – The term, “Grip it and rip it,” takes on a whole new meaning when Ryan Winther grabs a driver.

The Re/Maxx World Long Drive champion drives a golf ball like no other golfer on the planet. This afternoon he will try to write his name in the record books.

Winther and the sports team from Sports Radio ESPN 1210AM will get together and try to register Winther’s drives at the old airport on the mesa to see if Winther can set a new world record.

Working with technicians at Titleist, his drive was recently clocked in at an impressive 226.7 MPH (only 27 miles per hour slower than a Bughatti Veyron, the world’s fastest production car). He also holds multiple entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, including a longest carry drive of over a kilometer at an elevation of 430 yards.

Winther will be appearing at 4 p.m. today at the old St George Airport to attempt another world record. Locals can listen to the action live on the Devin Dixon Show on 1210AM/107.3FM or the public is welcome to attend at no charge. He will also be competing Thursday thru Saturday at Coral Canyon in the Utah State Long Drive Championship.
