SALT LAKE CITY – The American Red Cross, in partnership with Nexcare Bandages and actress Soleil Moon Frye, has announced the fifth annual Nexcare Give program to celebrate World Blood Donor Day on Thursday.

The St. George branch of the Red Cross, located at 476 East Riverside Drive, will be open and accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday. More information can be found by calling 435-674-4440.

This nationwide program will raise awareness about the importance of year-round blood donation and encourage people across the country to roll up a sleeve. Nexcare will give away limited-edition bandages inspired by the four seasons, each adorned with the word “give” to demonstrate that giving blood is always in season. The special bandages will be distributed at Red Cross donor centers on Thursday while supplies last.

“Sometimes people get busy with summer activities and they forget to make giving blood a priority. That means the summer months can pose a challenge to ensure a sufficient blood supply is available for those in need,” said Dave Ginsburg, manager of donor recruitment for the American Red Cross in Utah. “We are excited to work with Nexcare Bandages and Soleil Moon Frye to remind people that the need for blood is constant, regardless of the season.”

From summer flip-flops and winter snowflakes to fall foliage and spring flowers, the Nexcare Give program will provide Red Cross blood donors a chance to show their dedication by ensuring a sufficient blood supply is available for patients year-round.

For more information on donating blood, simply call 800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or visit the American Red Cross website. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Adults 18 and older who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Minors, with parental consent, also have to meet certain age, height and weight requirements but may be eligible. Potential donors should check with their local Red Cross to determine eligibility.
