WASHINGTON CITY – The body of a 24-year-old Washington City man was discovered this evening in Pineview Park located at 2050 South Alveo Drive in Washington City.

“A little prior to 5:30 p.m. we were notified by someone in the park that had discovered the body,” Ed Kantor, public information officer for Washington City Police Department, said. “Someone did see him there and notified the police department and the fire department.”

Kantor said the man was found deceased by what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man’s name is not being released as some notifications to family members have not yet been made.

A close friend of the deceased and his family, Sandie Divan said that the man had been depressed and told his fiancé Tuesday night that he wanted to commit suicide and that if he went missing they would know he had. When his infant, his cell phone, his wallet and other effects were found at his home with him gone this afternoon, Divan said those close to him grew concerned and alerted the police as well as posting alerts on social media.

As the matter remains under investigation and notifications are pending, Kantor deferred comment on any engagement of the police in the matter prior to the discovery of the body.

This is terrible. It’s sad to know that someone your age is struggling so badly. And I’m sorry did you say infant? He left his baby at home?

I would like to commend the photo journalist, Chris Caldwell. His pix on this story really tell a story. The photo used at the top of the article tells you a story without being too gruesome. I hope as new media, Chris, will enter these into the Society of Professional Journalism contest next year. Way to go. Thank you for keeping us informed.

The family has been notified and are in deep deep sorrow. Francis will be missed greatly. I am a friend of the family and I am sure they appreciate the communities condolences.

No he did not leave his baby unattended at home. He left his baby with his aunt who is an adult who is capable of taking care of a baby. The article suggests he left her unattended which is not correct. Frankie will be missed by many.

You did an awesome job at reporting what happened. Cynthia, the meaning behind the that he left everything behind, was mainly that he left everything behind that was important to him and that he would never leave. I think the way I worded it sounded differently than meant and I’m sorry about that. There was someone home with the baby when he left. The meaning behind the words are like I said that he left everything behind. He will be deeply missed by all those that love him.
