Around 12:30 p.m., Fire & Rescue members responded to assist an injured female hiker in the canyon, about half a mile north of the main campground. The woman, a tourist from New York who was hiking in a group, had fallen and was unable to reach safety on her own.

First responders loaded her onto a stretcher and carried her over the rocks to a waiting ambulance. Capt. Rich Rodgers of the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department said that she was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with a possible fractured ankle.

“(It was) a difficult climbing exercise for the Fire & Rescue crew,” witness Ron Olroyd said. “We love those guys.”
