Kalamity is a professional contemporary hip-hop group directed by Tia Stokes, a dancer and choreographer who has performed with Beyoncé at the Billboard Music Awards and nationally televised NBA games. Stokes’s goal is to not only entertain audiences and educate students, but to give back to the community.
Each year, Kalamity and its sister group of student dancers, Kaos, choose a “Kause” in the local community to support. They hold numerous fundraisers for that “Kause” throughout the year, culminating in their annual concert in December. All proceeds from the year’s are donated to the “Kause” and their family. Since 2007, Kalamity and Kaos have been able to raise $76,000 for charity.
For their 2013 “Kause,” the groups chose Rayden Michael Mansfield of St. George. Born 10 weeks premature in January 2013, he suffered from numerous health complications, including a large amount of fluid in his lungs and a mass on one lung. Rayden’s condition worsened in late April and he passed away on the morning of April 27.
Kalamity and Kaos are honored to hold a concert in memory of Rayden Monday at 7 p.m. at Dixie High School. Tickets cost $8 and all proceeds will go to the Mansfield family.
Stokes is also looking for a new cause for Kalamity and Kaos to dance for during 2013. Suggestions can be submitted by contacting her at firstname.lastname@example.org or 435-216-8974.
