ST. GEORGE – Six days ago, Snow Canyon could manage just one run and six hits against Canyon View in a frustrating 2-1 region loss. The Falcons may have awakened a sleeping giant.

Since then, the Warriors have averaged 13 runs a game, including the Warriors 16-0 drubbing of Hurricane Tuesday at Warriors Field.

Snow Canyon hit three home runs and racked up 13 hits while scoring in all four at-bats. The game was shortened after four and a half innings on high school’s 10-run mercy rule.

Riley Gates went deep and also knocked in five runs, while Brady Sargent and Jacob Frei, a pair of sophomores, also homered for the Warriors.

Brogan Secrist allowed just one hit in five innings and SC played error-free baseball. Secrist also doubled twice for Snow Canyon, which improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in region play.

The Warriors are a half-game behind Canyon View and Desert Hills in region and are tied with Dixie. Snow Canyon plays host to Cedar Wednesday evening.

Dixie 11, Pine View 8 (9 innings)

Tanner Wilde doubled home a pair of runs in the ninth inning and Braxton Ipson pitched all nine innings for the win as Dixie made a big comeback Tuesday night.

Down 7-3 going into the seventh inning, the Flyers manufactured four runs to tie the game and force extra innings. Dixie scored on a balk, a ground out,a wild pitch and an infield hit in the seventh.

The Flyers took an 8-7 lead in the eighth when Wilde scored on a Pine View throwing error in a rundown situation. But the Panthers responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth with Kody Wilstead coming home from third on a double-play ball.

But Wilde came to the plate in the ninth with two men on and ripped a double down the left field line, scoring them both. He also scored himself on the play when Pine View overthrew a ball to second in trying to cut Wilde down.

The three-run lead proved to be too much for Pine View to overcome with Ipson on the mound. Though the Panthers got to him earlier in the game, he seemed to get stronger as the game progressed.

“He fought us tooth and nail to stay in the game,” coach Danny Ipson said. “He did seem to be getting better as the game went.”

Braxton said he felt good, even with about 140 pitches under his belt.

“My arm didn’t hurt at all,” he said. “That’s just how my body is. The longer I go, the stronger I get. Plus you get to know the batters and their tendencies after the first time or two through the line-up.”

It was a key win for Dixie after having lost at home to Desert Hills last Friday.

“We needed this one,” Danny Ipson said. “After losing at home, getting a road win was important.”

Dixie is now 9-2 overall and 2-1 in region. The Flyers are off until Saturday when they sneak in a non-league game at West Jordan. Dixie plays at Cedar next Tuesday.

Pine View fell 5-4 overall and 1-2 in region despite a 3-run triple by Tristan Duran Tuesday night.

Canyon View 2, Cedar 0

Zach Brinkerhoff was spectacular on the mound again for the Falcons, shutting down the Redmen and allowing just five hits in the shutout.

CV pulled into a tie for first place with Desert Hills with the win. Jesse Mackelprang and Keaton Kringlen both doubled and broke open a scoreless tie in the sixth inning.

CV, 6-3 and 2-1 in region, plays at Hurricane Wednesday night.
