Mesquite police officer shot during traffic stop

MESQUITE, Nev. – A Mesquite police officer was shot Thursday morning after making a traffic stop.

A Mesquite Police representative said a veteran police officer made a traffic stop in which the driver of the stopped vehicle got out and shot the officer in the leg. The officer returned fire and hit the driver.

The officer was transported to the local hospital for treatment while the driver was airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas by Mercy Air.

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department will be participating in the investigation into the shooting.

Sounds like the officer did a better job of returning fire than the bad guy did. Trust the officer will recover successfully and quickly.
