OGDEN — Spanish Fork started quick and never looked back as the Dons beat Cedar 63-58 and eliminated the Redmen from the 3A State Tournament here in the Dee Events Center Friday night.
Cedar made a late run and actually pulled to within three in the games final 20 seconds, but Spanish Fork’s Ty Henry iced the game with two freebies to save the victory.
The Redmen had a successful year, but not the huge one they had planned. After starting Region 9 6-0, the Redmen closed the season out by losing six of their final nine games, including Thursday’s quarterfinal loss to Morgan.
Henry led SF with 14 points and Benson Reese had 13. The Redmen got a solid game from point guard Mike Hourigan, who had 14 points and three assists. Dustin Staggs was the top player for CHS, scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Dason Coronado added 13 for Cedar.
