Gunshot sends one to hospital, investigation ongoing

ST. GEORGE – Police are currently investigating a gunfire incident that sent a man to the hospital Sunday night.

Police responded to the report of gunfire at 2031 E Colorado Drive in St. George around 9 p.m., Sunday. Two subjects went to the address and a confrontation occurred between the resident and subjects.  At some point the resident produced a firearm and shot one of the subjects in the arm.

That subject was transported to Intermountain Healthcare Southwest Region at Dixie Regional Medical Center  where the injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.

Though gunfire was involved, Officer Derek Lewis, St. George Police Department public information officer, said such incidents aren’t overly common for St. George.

“We get them occasionally,” he said, “maybe once a year.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Once completed, details will be forwarded to the Washington County Attorney’s Office to be screened for criminal charges.

Notice to any subject who go to a resident’s home and confronts them, you may get shot! It happens occasionally, but only once a year.

    GUNS! GUNS! GUNS!………NOT! NOT! NOT!

Why is it that there are more and more of this type of activity occuring in this part of the state lately?
How much longer before this area gets like Vegas or southern California? There are a large number of armed citizens in this area and it is only a matter of time before someone will be returning fire at an offending perpetrator. Time to look for another safer place to move to.

So let me get this straight…….. It sounds you are defending criminals who are out there and will always find ways and circumstances in which to rob or assault people. You make it sound like they have some sort of right (because it’s their current form of employment) to rob and assault folks. And when people defend themselves the “defender” is in the wrong? Am I reading that previous comment correctly? Yes it’s time to move to CA or NY because that’s exactly how they think. Wow! When it’s not correct to be able to defend ourselves anymore, we are done for.

Ralph, you are wrong about what I posted. Of course everyone has the right to defend themselves. I my self would have reacted in the same manner. I left CA over 20 years ago because of the same that was happening there. I have resided in the state of Utah since leaving CA and have never experienced any of the recent activity as descibed in the article. I believe in the right to self defense and am a staunch supporter of the second ammendment. I was merely stating if this is going to become a trend here in little sleepy St George. I would rather perform self eye surgery than to go live in either CA or NY. You seriously misunderstood my comment, Ralph.

By the way…I never answer my door without a firearm in my hand….old CA habit.

So do you know where this “safer place” is? That must be where the unicorns live.

    • TakeMeToTheUnicorns February 22, 2013 at 6:19 pm

It’s definitely not a place where people answer the door with a firearm in their hand every time.

    Some where over the rainbow……..

My oh my, this place is just poppin’ lately with the violent crimes! #Realityof growth setting in

While I agree that this type of crime may be rare in the city, it is rather funny how the cop is so quick to ‘protect’ good ol’ St. George’s image by the must-have statement he made in the artilce. Perhaps he’s a relative of the good ol’ boy network that continually strives to make light in any way possible, the violent crimes that occur here… Ridiculous.

  • Omari February 20, 2013 at 5:13 pm

If the crime rate were any lower in a metro area this size, I’d almost be worried. Food for thought, we still live in an area where graffiti is news-worthy, pot-smoking is a huge deal and murders occur rarely once a year. Lol

Lets get the story straight since my dad is the one that got shot. The guy was posting horrific things about my mom and her assistant because he was angry that they fired him the day before. He continued posting awful things about them on Craigslist and the police were notified in fact they even called the cops on the way over to the guys house. They didn’t threaten the guy or anything they knocked on the door and he opened and shot. He could have killed them and was trying he was aimed for their chest ! Who I’m their right mind answers their door with a loaded 45?

    • DoubleTap February 22, 2013 at 1:59 pm

In my right mind, I answer my door with a .45, or it may be a 9mm, or a 12 gauge shotgun.
Old habits are hard to break….

      • Chap February 24, 2013 at 10:50 pm

Well, its one thing to answer the door with a loaded gun, Its another thing to open the door and shoot someone.

  • Phillys February 20, 2013 at 7:41 pm

Where’s the Metro Gang Unit, sleeping or whistling DIXIE? don’t we have this additional entity to assist SGPD?!! Seems they’re really lagging for an area where not too much is going on, I don’t want to have to sleep with one eye open at night!

  • sonny February 21, 2013 at 3:29 pm

Just so every one knows the police department was called two times and asked to go talk to the gun man and and both times they were told they could not help them. So when one of the party’s husband went to ask him to please stop posting lies on the Internet he instead shot the husband. All be cuz he got fired two days before from his job. He provoked into a situa where he could s where he could shoot them he just didn’t get to murder
