OGDEN – Six teams from Region 9 will be giving it all over the next three days in hopes of coming away as 3A State Champions here at the Dee Events Center.
Wintry conditions and icy roads won’t keep the Snow Canyon and Cedar boys teams and the Cedar, Dixie, Desert Hills and Snow Canyon girls teams from vying for the top spot in the classification at the 3A state tournament and STGnews will be there to document the action and bring the excitement back to our southern Utah readers.
After each game, we will have highlights, postgame interviews, stories and stats so that Region 9 hoops fans can stay informed and excited throughout the state tournament.
On the boys side, Snow Canyon looks to have as good a shot as any team in the quarterfinals. The Warriors open event at 9:30 a.m. Thursday with a battle against Ben Lomond, from the Ogden area. The Scots are sure to have a big crowd as they greet Chandler Gines, Nate Gottfredson and the rest of the Warriors. Ben Lomond is 14-9 and finished second in Region 11. The Scots have a four-game winning streak. If SC can win, the Warriors would battle the winner of the Judge Memorial/Bear River game.
Cedar’s boys battle No. 1-ranked and red-hot Morgan at 2:30 p.m. The Trojans are 20-2 and blasted through Region 12 undefeated.
On the girls side, Cedar takes on Bear River at 4:10 p.m., so it will be back to backers for the Cedar boys and girls.
Dixie plays Carbon at 5:50 p.m. The fourth-seeded Lady Flyers are looking to crash the party as the lowest seeded team still alive.
Snow Canyon’s Lady Warriors battle Delta at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Desert Hills will play Morgan in the last game of the quarterfinals at 9:10 p.m. That should be a doozie of a game with both teams coming in with just two losses each the entire season.
