Suspect in fatal assault arrested in California

ST. GEORGE – The suspect involved in a fatal aggravated assault case in St. George has been arrested in California.

Capt. Kyle Whitehead of the St. George Police Department said in a statement Monday the police were notified that morning that Mario Lucero was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office in California.  He has been booked in jail on two warrants out of Utah, one of which was a warrant issued by St. George Police Department for aggravated assault and the other is warrant for a parole violation.

Lucero is a suspect in the aggravated assault that led to the death of Jeremy Shawn Olsen, 31, of St. George. Lucero has previously fled the scene before police arrived and Olsen was airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas in critical condition due to severe head trauma. Olsen was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon.

    Don’t shirk. Come forward if you might know something. Together we will make sure this thug never sees the daylight again. But it takes a handful of brave souls.
