ST. GEORGE - A three-car accident on River Road at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday served as yet another reminder of the increasing complexities of traffic on St. George’s major roads.

The accident occurred at 1050 South River Road. Two vehicles were stopped at the traffic light. The driver of the third vehicle failed to stop and struck the second vehicle from behind, pushing it into the first vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

River Road experiences heavy traffic flow daily and is one of St. George’s most populated and, therefore, one of those most susceptible to collisions, along with Bluff Street, St. George Boulevard and 1000 East.

Officer Derek Lewis, public information officer for the St. George Police Department, said that drivers need to pay attention at all times, regardless of whether they are traveling on a busy route or not.

“Be aware is what traffic is doing around (you,)” he said.

Dear City Traffic engineers, please observe and improve the light at River Rd and 1450 South (intersection near Summit Athletic Club). Constatntly the left turn lane to turn onto 1450 is backed way up onto and past the Virgin River bridge during rush hours. That green arrow is inefficient and needs replaced with a solid arrow light!!! I’ve seen people get impatient and cut off the entire long line of left turners and make a left from the going-straight lane onto 1450! StgNews, please make the aware…

So AGREE!! I was sat thru 5 (FIVE) short-lived green arrow lights yesterday at 6pm trying to turn onto 1450th!!

Ms. Jackson – I feel there could be similar improvements made to left turn lights in several areas of our connected cities! And I agree, it shouldn’t take a three-car pileup to get something done.
