SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s job growth rate registered higher than the national average in November 2012, and numbers in Washington County showed growth as well.

By the governor’s account, the state’s economy surged ahead in November 2012. Job growth jumped to 3.1 percent, more than twice the national average of 1.4 percent. The state’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.1 percent.

In Washington County, job growth was 5.4 percent in November.  The county’s unemployment remained higher than the state rate, at 6.5 percent.

The state has added an estimated 37,800 jobs in the last year, according to the governor’s statement Dec. 21, 2012. Of those, 2,500 are estimated to be added within Washington County.

“Utah continues to outpace what has become the ‘new normal’ across the nation,” Herbert said in his statement. “In a time of mounting national uncertainty, Utah stands out as a stark reminder that principle-based governance and a business-friendly atmosphere yield the greatest economic prosperity.”

It is good that jobs are being added. I have to wonder how many pay a decent wage and aren’t service sector jobs!

Is it true that St George created a $40K part-time job (with benefits) and gave it to the mayor’s son?
