WASHINGTON CITY – A single-vehicle accident at milepost 12 on Interstate-15 Tuesday afternoon sent the female driver to the hospital.

The accident occurred at 2:32 p.m. when the driver, a 55-year-old woman from New Harmony, collided into the guard rail. Her vehicle then spun back into the northbound lane, blocking traffic.

“It appears that she veered into the median and then over-corrected to the right, causing the crash,” said Cpl. Todd Johnson, public information officer for the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver sustained chest injuries due to the seat belt and was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., it was reported that traffic had begun to move slowly.
