ST. GEORGE – After years of scheduling conflicts, the City of St. George and Washington Citycollaborated and staggered their parade schedules to allow participants and spectators to attend both. This led to a great turnout for both parades and the city activities.

St. George followed their parade with a music-based tribute in the Tabernacle building featuring various performers and the East Elementary Show Choir. The main floor was packed, and the balcony seating wasn’t far behind.

Florence Green, the last known World War I survivor, passed away in February 2012 and each year, we have fewer surviving veterans.

“We are seeing fewer and fewer World War II veterans, so I hope those (spectators) here today make an extra special effort to show your appreciation for those (veterans) you see,” said Bryan Hyde, co-host of Perspectives on Fox News KZNU 1450 AM/93.1 FM and St. George News columnist.

Washington City also held a tribute program in its Veterans Park following their parade. Students from the local elementary schools worked with resident veterans in a flag ceremony and a musical program of patriotic songs.

The collaboration worked well, and many residents made the quick trip from St. George to Washington in order to participate in both parades. Hundreds of flags have been posted in the park to honor all veterans, and will remain there for a few days.
