Programmers show off app-building skills at Southern Utah Code Camp 2012

ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State College of Utah Technical Association wants experienced or aspiring programmers, software designers and entrepreneurs to unite at the Southern Utah Code Camp 2012.

Code Camp provides individuals or teams the whirlwind experience of creating a web or mobile app in 24 hours, from 8 a.m. on Nov. 9 to 8 a.m. on Nov. 10.

Teams will be divided into three categories: Novice, Collegiate or Professional. Teams are not allowed to build or design any part of their app prior to the start of the event. There is no cost to participants thanks to industry sponsors.

Over 130 individuals, some as young as 12-years-old, are already registered, an attendance record. The event will be held at the Gardner Student Center Auditorium on the DSC campus.

Aside from over $2,000 in cash and prizes for winning teams, Code Camp offers participants the opportunity to network, gain technical experience and build friendships in the community.

“It’s crazy fun!” event chair Jeff Poulton said.

Joshua Aikens, chair of the Dixie Technical Association, said that Code Camp is a great opportunity to showcase local talent.

“Every tech company in Southern Utah is desperate to hire the best,” he said. “Even in this economy, this industry is struggling to find people.”

Are you up for the challenge? There’s still time to register for Code Camp online.
