ST. GEORGE – Due to the all-too-common truncation of the World Huntsman Senior Games title, observers often forget that it is truly a worldwide event. Each sport draws athletes from all parts of the globe, and few do so to the same extent as the Volleyball Global Cup.
Unlike many of the events, the Volleyball Global Cup is an invite-only event, and is comprised of teams representing various countries. With this exclusivity comes tougher competition, more professional play, and a great show for spectators.
The Global Cup has been running over the last seven years, and alternates between men’s and women’s teams each year. This year is the men’s turn, and teams include Russia, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. For some, it means defending a hard-earned title, and for others it’s a chance to prove themselves against the returning champions.
Matches between these teams will continue through Oct. 18 at the Dixie Center, with the final matches at Desert Hills High School, on Thursday at 5:30pm.
Entry is free to the public, and members of the community are encouraged to take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity to see some of the world’s best senior athletes.
