ST. GEORGE – The St. George Police Department was contacted by officials in California that a person of interest connected to the Cache Valley Bank robbery Friday was arrested in San Fernando, Calif., over the weekend.
Captain Kyle Whitehead of the St. George Police Department issued the following statement:
Today we received information that the male we were looking for as a person of interest in a bank robbery has been arrested in San Fernando, California. James Ellison McKibbin, 41, was arrested yesterday for bank robbery. We were looking to speak with him as a person of interest surrounding the bank robbery of the Cache Valley Bank branch in St. George last Friday. The arrest information has been turned over the FBI who have the resources to assist in California. From the beginning the robbery case in St. George has been investigated jointly by PD detectives and the FBI.
The Cache Valley Bank on River Road in St. George was robbed Friday, Oct. 5, when a man entered the bank with a note demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left the bank on foot. The police conducted an extensive search of the area while nearby Heritage Elementary was placed on temporary lockdown. No one was harmed in the incident.
In the hours following the robbery, St. George Police and the FBI listed McKibbon as a “person of interest” in the case.
