ST. GEORGE – On Tuesday, the Southwest Utah Public Health Department will hold its annual Washington County Flu Shoot-Out at the Red Cliffs Mall.
Flu vaccinations will be given in bulk at this one-day-only event in an effort to reduce the number of Washington County residents affected this fall and winter. It is recommended that everyone over 6 months of age receive a shot, most importantly pregnant women, seniors over age 65 and individuals with chronic health issues. Caregivers and relatives of those individuals are also at increased risk.
Three types of vaccinations will be available: A standard shot, high-dose shot for seniors and nasal spray version for healthy individuals ages 2 to 49. The service is free for Medicaid, Medicare, Children’s Health Insurance Program, Public Employees’ Health Program, SelectHealth, Altius, Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators, United Healthcare and Tall Tree subscribers, and costs $18 for all others.
The shoot-out’s drive-through service for adults 18 and over will be open from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., and the walk-in for all ages will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
