ST. GEORGE – Start clearing out the trash, the bi-annual Debris-Free Dixie Day is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 22.
In order to help promote a cleaner, more livable city, St. George Mayor McArthur instituted Debris-Free Dixie Day 15 years ago. For each Debris-Free Dixie Day, the Solid Waste District donates labor and dumpsters and city crews donate their time to help citizens haul away large or bulky items.
Knowing there are many citizens who are unable to clean up their yards, Mayor McArthur is challenging neighborhoods and community groups to organize and participate in clean-up projects to help those in need. This fall the Debris-Free Dixie Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you decide to organize a group to work on a service project in your area, the St. George Streets Division can provide you with garbage bags. To arrange this, call 627-4020 prior to Debris-Free Dixie Day.
Residents who need help hauling large or odd shaped items may contact Miriam Palma at 627-4050, firstname.lastname@example.org, Monday, Sept. 17, to Saturday, Sept. 22, to make an appointment for pickup. Please have items on the curb and they will be picked up by crews on Saturday, September 22, between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m.
