Game preview capsule: Shadow Ridge at Snow Canyon

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE

Shadow Ridge, Nev. (0-0) at Snow Canyon (0-1)

MUSTANGS
Classification: Nevada Division I, Northwest League
Coach: Frank Tousa (second year, 0-9)
Offense: Spread
Last year: 0-9
Players to watch: Junior QB Jay Henderson and WR Deshawn Thompson likely will hook up often. The Mustangs also have a senior RB in Ryan Johnson.
PPG (last year): 13.1
PAPG (last year): 29.7
Trend: Like most Las Vegas schools, there is some talent on this Shadow Ridge team, but rarely are they able to put it all together. Shadow Ridge was a doormat last season in Vegas and the Mustangs have just eight of 22 starters back.

WARRIORS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Jay Graft (sixth year, 32-36 overall)
Offense: Spread, pro set
Last week: Lost to San Juan 19-11
Players to watch: Still not sure on the QB spot as senior Mason Smith and sophomore Jake Frei both played. Smith will likely start, but Frei should play. Mitchell Phillips looks to be the top RB for the Warriors.
PPG: 11.0
PAPG: 19.0
Trend: San Juan was no slouch. Losing to the 2A power is nothing to be ashamed of. But Snow Canyon needs to get its offense untracked. The yards shoul be easy to come by against Shadow Ridge.

GAME OUTLOOK
Sometimes these Las vegas school can jump up and shock you. But generally speaking, St. George football is better than Vegas football. And Shadow Ridge is at the very bottom of the pecking order in Vegas. SC should cruise.

STGnews PREDICTION
Andy Griffin — Snow Canyon
Jeff Ames — Snow Canyon
