Game preview capsule: Pine View at Orem

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE

Pine View (0-1) at Orem (0-1)

PANTHERS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Ray Hosner (12th year, 94-34 overall)
Offense: Spread and I-backs
Last week: Lost to East 35-0
Players to watch: All eyes will be on Dylan Draper, who makes his first start as varsity quarterback with the injury to Kody Wilstead. The Pine View OL needs to make more room for Draper and RBs Prentiss Miller and Pano Tiatia.
PPG: 0.0
PAPG: 35.0
Trend: Being shut out on opening day was not the start Panthers fans hoped for, but many people feel like East may be the best team in the state in any classification. But no doubt, Pine View needs to fix some issues and find an identity.

TIGERS
Classification: 4A, Region 8
Coach: Tyler Anderson (10th year, 56-48 overall)
Offense: Spread
Last week: Lost to Herriman 49-21
Players to watch: The Orem QB is named Taylor Camp and he hooked up three times with WR Nolan Gray for touchdowns last week. Gray is protected by big, bad OL Ben Thomas.
PPG: 21.0
PAPG: 49.0
Trend: Last year the Tigers gave up nearly 30 poingts a game and last week Herriman scored 49 on them, so it looks as if Orem continues to struggle to stop anybody. Camp had 205 yards passing, but the Tigers had less than 25 rushing yards last week.

GAME OUTLOOK
Pine View is a wounded animal, with defensive leader Wes Moeai nursing a concussion and QB Kody Wilstead out for at least two months. But the Tigers defense is just not very good. Look for the Panthers to run the ball early and often with Prentiss Miller poised for a big game.

STGnews PREDICTION
Andy Griffin — Pine View
Jeff Ames — Orem
