GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE

Pine View (0-0) at East (0-0)

PANTHERS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Last year: 4-5
Coach: Ray Hosner (94-33 overall)
Offense: Spread and I-backs
Players to watch: Senior RB Prentiss Miller is a four-year starter; Sophomore QB Kody Wilstead is receiving national attention; Arizona signee Logan Stott will have his hands full with a physical Leopards squad
PPG (last year): 31.1
PAPG (last year): 23.3
Trend: Finished strong last year, but a tough foe to begin 2012 on the road. PV plays four of its first five games on the road.

LEOPARDS
Classification: 4A, Region 6
Coach: Brandon Matich (20-5 at EHS)
Offense: Spread
Players to watch: DE Sione Leaaetoa might be the best football player in the state. Besides Leaaetoa, the Leopards also have four Division I commits, including future BYU Cougar Patrick Paliau.
PPG (last year): 28.4
PAPG (last year): 16.2
Trend: Eight starters return from a defense that was already really good. They’re going to be scary good this year on D, plus the Leopards also return seven starters on offense. Many predict East will win 4A.

GAME OUTLOOK

Pine View scored more points on East (27) than anyone else last season except state champ Logan and the Panthers did it by running the ball. Look for Pine View to try and establish the run and then use Wilstead as a play-action threat.

STGnews PREDICTION
