Fire weather alert: Sunday, Iron and Washington County areas

SOUTHERN UTAH – National Weather Service Alert for Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening – included in the alert areas are Washington and Iron Counties:

Fire weather watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds for fire weather zones 478492 and 495.

The national weather service in Salt Lake City has issued a fire weather watch for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds, which is in effect from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening.

* Affected area: Fire weather zone 478 salt lake desert fire weather zone 492 central Utah west desert and fire weather zone 495-Color Country west desert.

* Thunderstorms: Widely scattered dry thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon and evening across western Utah.

* Outflow winds: Erratic wind gusts to 50 mph are possible with thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening.

* Impacts: Dry lightning will bring the potential for numerous new fires starts and gusty microburst winds may result in erratic fire behavior both with new starts and existing fires.

Precautionary/preparedness actions:

A fire weather watch means that there is a potential for critical fire weather conditions. Continue to monitor for the latest forecasts and for possible red flag warnings.
