HURRICANE - An SUV in the turning lane of state Route 9 and Telegraph Road caught fire around 3 p.m. today causing traffic delays.

The vehicle caught fire under its left front tire this afternoon and burst into flames, Public Information Officer, Nancy Perkins, said.  Hurricane Police arrived on the scene just as the vehicle was catching fire.

The vehicle carried three occupants, all of who got out safely with no injuries.

The vehicle is a “total loss, being completely engulfed in flame,” Perkins said.

Traffic in the area was stalled for 20 minutes, then redirected to one lane for another 45 minutes. Hurricane Police assisted Hurricane Fire Department in the response and traffic control.
