IVINS – The OMG Fire is 100 percent contained as of 9:30 a.m. Monday. The total area burned by the fire has been GPS-mapped to 2,710 acres.
Summary: Color Country Interagency firefighters have stopped the forward progression of the lightning caused OMG fire that ignited on Bureau of Land Management administered land west of St. George. The fire burned Shivwits Indian Reservation land in addition. Full containment of the fire was achieved at 9:30 a.m. this morning with the help of precipitation received last night.
This will be the final OMG Fire update unless significant activity occurs.
Start Date: Friday, July 21, 2012 5:30 p.m.
Location: Near OMG Plant (Gold Mining Mill), near Old Highway 91.
Jurisdiction: Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Fire Size: 2,710 acres (Note: Increased acreage due to more accurate mapping w/GPS).
Cause: Lightning.
Fire Behavior: Forward progression has been stopped, smoldering and creeping is being observed.
Closures: No closures are in effect.
Percent Contained: 100 percent contained at 9:30 a.m. on July 23.
Fuels: Cheatgrass and mixed brush.
Fire Crews/Resources: one crew, four fire engines, and seven smoke jumpers are on scene.
Injuries: No injuries have been reported.
Am I to read this as, ‘OMG!! Fire 100 percent contained!’
I’m not sure if you’re joking or not but OMG is the actual name of the fire. It’s not meant to be “Oh My God” but is named after an old mine in the fire area, ironically.
