Man arrested after sideswiping motorcyclist with stolen vehicle

HURRICANE – A Washington City man driving a stolen vehicle is in jail on multiple counts after sideswiping a motorcyclist with his vehicle and then running from Hurricane Police officers.

The 43-year-old Washington City man, was driving a white 2000 Chevy Impala when he hit one motorcyclist near the intersection of 5300 West and state Route 9, which leads to the Washington County Fairgrounds. The driver of that motorcycle suffered injuries and was transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

As the man continued driving eastbound into Hurricane the second motorcyclist, who had been traveling with the first motorcyclist, followed the suspect’s vehicle to the intersection of 3700 West and SR-9.

The second motorcyclist parked in front of the man’s car and got off his bike to confront the suspect. The suspect clipped that motorcycle and drove north on 3700 West for several blocks before turning his vehicle around, driving off the road and onto the sidewalk, eventually striking a power pole. He then fled on foot and was shortly afterward arrested by Hurricane Police officers.

The man was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on charges of suspicion of DUI, possession/receiving a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, causing a personal injury accident, failure to report an accident and driving on a denied license.
