Southern Utah sees low voter turn out; Primary Election results

ST. GEORGE – Utah’s Primary Election 2012 results for Federal, State, and district seats for Iron and Washington Counties, according to the state’s website at  12:20 a.m.*, are set forth below.

Voter turnout was low. Votes cast from Southern Utah, reported thus far, were 5,548 for Iron County and 14,279 for Washington County.

It is no surprise that Mitt Romney took the Republication nomination for the U.S. presidential race. At the bottom of the pile in that race in Utah was Fred Karger who, despite his last ditch three-week campaign push in Utah – which focused more on a gay rights agenda than pursuit of the U.S. Presidency – garnered only 0.25 percent of the vote.

The much publicized race between Dan Liljenquist and Orrin Hatch was not, in the end, close. The senior senator will run for another term. Liljenquist issued his statement of congratulations and assurance of support earlier this evening.

And the incumbent state senator, Casey Anderson, will not have a chance to seek another term in November, as his opponent Evan Vickers took the GOP nomination two to one.

Anderson posted on his own Facebook sometime around 12:30 a.m. “Glad to have run a hard clean race on the record. I called and congratulated my opponent.”
