WASHINGTON COUNTY – Investigators with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office have identified one adult male allegedly responsible for starting the Quail Fire.

Detective Nate Abbott of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the man was given a citation for reckless burning. No additional information was provided concerning the individual.

The Quail Fire, which started Saturday afternoon and reached a size of 1,708 acres over the weekend, has been fully contained as 12 p.m., Monday.

Like the Quail Fire, recent fires in Southern Utah, such the Winchester Hills Fire and Hurricane Fire, were also human-caused.

State officials recently issued statewide fire restrictions for unincorporated private and public lands on June 14. Similar fire restrictions had been adopted by national parks and monuments, as well as fire districts, throughout the state. These restrictions have been put in place due to the extremely dry weather conditions currently experienced in Utah and neighboring states.
