ST. GEORGE – A fire in the Winchester Hills area is 100 percent contained.

There were no injuries, evacuations, or road closures.

The fire began Wednesday night when a travel trailer tire blew out at mile post 10 on state Route 18. The tire and wheel came off the travel trailer and rolled into dry grass, where the hot metal ignited the grass and brush.

Three homes were immediately threatened by the fire. A wooden deck of one home and the windows of another home were damaged.

Twelve fire engines and one water tender responded to the fire. Several agencies responded to the fire, including the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Winchester Hills Fire District, Diamond Valley Fire District, Dammeron Valley Fire District, and Northwestern Fire District.

Fire agencies will continue to mop up the fire this evening. One engine will patrol the fire tomorrow.
