Dixie Rebels head to Logan for likely defensive battle

LOGAN – The Dixie Rebels semi-pro team will be at Logan High School on Saturday to play the Logan Stampede at 7 p.m.

This will be an interesting matchup. Last year when these two teams played each other in the opening game of the season it was intense. The ending of the game turned it into an instant classic. The Rebels were up 7-6 with little time left in the game. They had a nice drive going, but as they got into field goal range they fumbled the ball and the Stampede picked it up and were able to get into the red zone before the Rebels could stop them. It was looking like it would be an upset in St. George, but the Rebels’ defense not only held them, but pushed them outside of the red zone and subsequently blocked their field goal to secure the one-point victory.

The Stampede again have a mediocre offense and a stout defense, which can be seen by the low scoring in all three of their games so far this year. Combine that with the fact that the Rebels will be starting backup quarterback A.J. Martinez due to a mild injury sustained by starter Diarra Fields and it is quite likely that it will be another low-scoring, defensive battle.
