The Dixie Escalante Kite Festival returns this weekend

ST. GEORGE – It’s April and springtime has returned to Southern Utah, which means the Dixie Escalante Kite Festival is right around the corner.

For 13 years the Dixie Escalante Kite Festival has promoted reading among elementary school students as a habit and encouraged them to engage in family-oriented physical activity.  Students who meet the festival’s reading challenge earn a high-quality kite kit or age-appropriate book.

The Kite Festival will be held at the SunRiver Golf Course in St. George, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

Directions to the SunRiver Golf Course can be found here.

As an adjunct to the primary mission of the Kite Festival, contributions are made to the Washington County School District Foundation for distribution to schools most actively involved in the Kite Festival based on attendance.

Individuals may also bring personal kites to fly in a designated area.

There are no fees for parking, shuttle rides, admission, entertainment or fireworks. Food vendors will also be present at the Kite Festival.

Evening entertainment will be provided by “The Hubcaps,” who will perform at 8 p.m.

In addition to kite flying, there are free children games and other for children’s activities including bouncy toys, small train rides and other rides for $1 and $2.
