ST. GEORGE – The Dixie Rebels are on a bus, enduring the 10-hour drive past Boise, to play the Treasure Valley Spartans tonight in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.

The game starts at 6 p.m. and could be a real test for the Rebels as the Spartans have linebacker Zac Jockumsen, the four time Rocky Mountain Football League defensive player of the year, and Zacq Hale, who won RMFL Special Teams Player of the Year and RMFL Most Valuable Player last year.

According to the Spartans’ website, “Locking down the league’s top receivers week in and week out, Zacq also earned his stripes on special teams. His great play kept the Spartans on top in many games as he scored an amazing 8 non-offensive touchdowns during the regular season.”

Both teams won last week as the Spartans defeated the Logan Stampede 14-10 and the Rebels defeated the Magic Valley Bulldogs 33-3.

Last year the Rebels played the Spartans in St. George; the Spartans were the only team all season that threatened to beat the Rebels as they jumped out to a 20-0 lead. The Rebels, however, are a second-half team. From that point forward the Rebels played lock-down defense and dropped 28 points on the Spartans to end the game with a 20-28 victory.

Cameron Murdock, Rebels’ WR and DB, told St. George News that the Rebels always seem to play their best ball late in the game. He also said, “We always seem to find a way to win.”

This year they will have to play far from the comfort of Walt Brooks Stadium.

“Anytime there’s a 10-hour drive prior to the game it’s hard,”  said Rebels’ co-owner Doug Cook.
