ST. GEORGE – A Washington man was arrested Sunday after attempting to rob the Kmart pharmacy on South Bluff Street.

The St. George Police Department received several calls just after 1 p.m. Sunday regarding a suspicious individual at the Kmart. The individual, later identified as a 26-year-old Washington City resident, was described as wearing a motorcycle helmet, sunglasses, gloves, camouflage jacket, and carrying a case. The man was also seen writing on a piece of paper while in the pharmacy at Kmart.

Officers entered the store and observed the man standing in the pharmacy area. When he saw the officers he immediately set the case down and opened it up.  The officers made contact with the man and saw an old typewriter in the briefcase. The officers also saw the paper the man was writing on. Written on the paper was the demand for prescription medication and that he had a bomb in his briefcase.

The man admitted to the police that he intended to commit a robbery of the Kmart pharmacy.

The man was arrested for aggravated robbery after the attempt to rob the Kmart pharmacy.  He was subsequently booked into the Washington County Jail.

“The staff at Kmart pharmacy did an outstanding job in contacting the police when they observed the suspicious behavior,” said Capt. James Van Fleet in a statement from the St. George Police Department.

@Bevisss….First, it is stupid to do drugs PERIOD! Second, you claim you ” are sure he is not normally an aggressive criminal”, so if he is a “passive” criminal it is okay then? Third, maybe if he had gotten “good drugs” he would not have attemptd to rob the pharmacy? Good rational Bevisss….
