STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY

ST. GEORGE – The No. 1 ranked Desert Hills Thunder will take on the Hurricane Tigers today at 1:30 p.m. for the 3A state basketball championship!

If you cant make it to the game you can watch it live at www.kznusports.com

The Tigers and the Thunder were the preseason No.1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the state and will hit the hardwood against each other for the third time this season.

The Tigers won the first meeting in Hurricane 54-53 led by 26 points from Boston Gubler. Gubler also grabbed 12 rebounds in the game.

The key to the Tiger win was slowing the game down and pounding the ball inside to Gubler and Marshall.

The Tigers weren’t so lucky in the second meeting being blown out by the Thunder at Desert Hills High School.

The Thunder won the game 59-39 and held Gubler to 12 points. Thunder start Tyler Ott scored a game high 17 points while point guard Brandon Simister added triple double scoring 10 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists.

The key to the Thunder win was containing the big’s inside and putting pressure on the Tiger guards.

The Thunder want to make today’s game a track meet and get the Tiger’s twin towers in foul trouble.

For the Tigers to win they have to handle the pressure defense from the Thunder and keep feeding the ball inside. If Gubler and Marshall have big games its going to be hard for the Thunder to beat the Tigers.

Who will cut down the nets? Find out live on www.kznusports.com at 1:30 p.m.
